Successfully developed the nation’s first Associate’s Degree in Freshwater Studies in 2009. Strong emphasis in Science, Technology and Mathematics competencies while leveraging several unique assets available to the college and region. Active in research proposal generation and experimental activities focused on the Great Lakes including the use of remotely operated vehicles, remote sensing platforms and “state of the art” hydrographic survey equipment.

Responsible for management decisions while leading and coordinating research and educational programs at the University of Michigan.

· Proficient at the use of survey equipment on both land and at sea. Expertise in sonar mapping, GPS and navigation equipment, and small boat and research vessel operations.
· Significant experience with State of Michigan regulatory and enforcement agencies including the MDEQ, MDNR, United States Army Corps of Engineers and the Michigan State Police.
Environmental Monitoring Operations and Observation Networks
· Expertise in the development and deployment of environmental monitoring systems including point source pollution identification and tracking.
· Instrumental in the establishment of the Grand Traverse Bay Observing System (GTBOS)
· Experienced in a broad range of environmental and remote sensing techniques and applications including projects in river, lake, ocean and arctic regions.
Underwater Operations
· Recognized expert in the operation and mission planning for Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) with over 2100 hours of ROV pilot time on several different platforms over 18 years. Knowledge of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles used in research investigations.
· Performed ROV missions across North America including the US coastal oceans and Arctic regions examining aquatic habitat, environmental contamination, shipwreck investigations and support of law enforcement activities.
